Jasmine forced herself to calm down, though it wasn't very easy at all. "What do you need me to look for," she asked him, trying to keep herself from shaking. She was possibly more scared than she'd ever been, but she had to stay focused.

Matthew sat beside her and held her hand. "Try to find something, with some sort of significance to where they may plan to ambush. Whether it be at a compound or just something. Anything at all..." he said softly, trying not to scare her any more than she already was. He kissed her head, sighing. "I know this is all..a rush. It's scary and you think you'll lose me. You won't. I won't go down so easily." he whispered, holding her.

She nodded and leaned against him, holding him as he held her. "Just don't get separated... I think everyone will survive, then..." she murmured. God, losing him was such a scary thought... After all, he was the only thing she had anymore. She didn't even have her own clothes or a home. Just her mate. What would she do if she lost him? Probably lose her mind... All because of a tiny little birthmark.

Matthew held her closer and nuzzled her neck. "Love, I'm sorry that you were brought into this world of mine...honestly, if I had my way, you would not be a breedmate. I'm sorry.." he apologized, kissing her face and caressing her cheek tenderly. He truly hoped that someday, all this fighting would end. That she could go out without any fear for her family or friends, that she could see them again.

"It isn't your fault," she murmured, kissing his cheek softly. "Well.. Technically, it is," she said to tease him with a smirk with little effort put into it. "But I don't blame you. I blame those stupid rogues... Wait," she said, getting an idea. "What if... What if there was a way to make a rogue back into what he was before? Do you think I'd be able to do it? Maybe even get rid of the thing that makes vampires turn into rogues in the first place?"

At first, the idea was almost comprehensible but he totally shook it off. It was in their genetic code, she couldn't possible be able to change a mind set like that which goes back to thousands of years. You can't change instinct except make it null in the person itself and even then, it wasn't possible. "Love..I don't think you could. It's in our dna, eventually we revert back to what the ancients were, blood thirsty monsters seeking to continue their blood line and satiate their blood obsession. It's impossible." Matthew said sadly, shaking his head.

She looked a little defeated, but nodded in understanding. She nuzzled him gently, not wanting to let go of him for fear she'd never be able to feel his warm embrace again.

"I...I don't mean to kill your buzz but it's almost inevitable for us to not fall under blood lust sometime later in life....It's almost like it's in our DNA.." Matthew further explained, breathing deeply and kissing her head. "Just know this...I love you." he whispered, his heart aching at the thought of not feeling her in his arms again, experiencing death before really living with his mate and maybe even having children.

She felt her heart swell at him saying those three little words and hugged him tighter, trying not to cry. Was he really saying that before he was about to run into an ambush? "I love you, too, Matthew," she whispered, her voice probably shaking.

Matthew shushed her and caressed her hair. "Don't be scared for me...You know I will come back to you. In one piece or at least missing a few, but I'll come back. I promise.." he said, kissing her softly. He too was afraid for himself, but he was more worried about her.

She kissed him back, wanting to believe his promise would hold true. But knowing the danger he was running into, probably blindly, she couldn't fully make herself believe. "I won't sleep a wink until I see you again," she murmured.

Matthew grunted. "Then maybe I should make you so tired you'll sleep for days.." he joked, rubbing his head against hers with a sly grin. He obviously wanted to have her feel better, but it proved to be useless. She knew what would come.

She chuckled, shaking her head without ever leaving skin contact. "you would," she teased, trying to help herself out of the funk she was in.

Matthew smiled, staring into her eyes. "There, give me that beautiful smile..." he said, nuzzling her. "Either way...if you want to try Lisa again, you'll have to do it later...give Logan time. Hell, try this new..theory of yours. See if something can come out of it." he encouraged, closing his eyes. If she could find a way, or if another breedmate had some sort of ability for that to work.... That would save so many of the breed.

She did smile for him. She nodded. 'I will," she promised, stroking his cheek gently. "I'll find a way to revert them back. I might fail a lot at first, but I'll figure out a way."

"Just how do you..plan to?" Matthew asked, curious about her current mission. She was so determined he almost thought she could be the first to crack the whole problem of blood lust.

"If I can't cure it completely, I can subdue the gene that causes blood lust," she told him. "It's like dogs and hip problems. Sometimes I cheated a little and subdued the gene that caused the hip problem. Or subdued the gene that caused cancer."

Matthew stared at her in disbelief. She could actually do it. He gulped, rubbing her head and sighing. "Man, I'm one lucky warrior." he chuckled, kissing her forehead. "You're my little nerd." he joked, grinning. Now the air between them felt a lot lighter, but obviously sooner or later, they'll feel the tension again. Within a few hours, he'll have to leave with the others to go to Lucan's compound in order to prepare.

She chuckled. "First a weak little girl, now a nerd. What next," she teased.

Matthew grunted and rolled his eyes. "One that captures a warrior's heart easily. How's that?" he said, smiling and hugging her tenderly. "Either way, you probably didn't get much sleep thanks to all the commotion so..go to sleep." he said, laying her down and laying beside her.

She smiled and snuggled close to him. "What if I don't want to sleep until you get back," she asked as a 'hypothetical' situation.

Matthew growled. "You need it. There's bags under your eyes." he muttered, staring her down as if to beat her to submission.

She looked strait back up to him. "Only if you swear with every fiber of your being that you'll come back," she said softly.

Matthew sighed, looking away. He nodded slowly and looked back at her again. "I swear. With every fiber of my being, my existence, whatever is left of me." he said, looking straight into her eyes.

She nodded, smiling sleepily and closed her eyes, snuggling close to him. "I love you," she whispered.
