A Werewolf's Heart Part 1.2

She fell asleep long before he did, still holding him, her lips close to his.

Raini carefully handed the sleeping boy to Brados before standing to head back to her den.

Kendal watched her then looked at his older brother once she was gone. "Do you think I have a chance with her?"

Brados looked up at him. "Give her some time, Kendal," he murmured. "She lost her mate only hours ago. She's going to be upset for a while."

He nodded. "I want to help her though. To hold her as she cries. To try to make her feel better... Is that weird?"

Brados nodded. "A little. I'll help you," he offered, wanting to make up for how he had treated his brother in their old pack.

He nodded. "I'd really like that." he said softly.

Brados gently laid Sam down and covered her up, laying Conall next to her under the blanket. He stood and led his brother to Raini's den; she was already sleeping, tear stains on her cheeks. "Let's make you a bed outside her den," Brados whispered and went to go get some blankets and leaves.

He nodded and helped him get the leaves and set them up so they were comfortable. They were put in a place where, if it rained, he would be protected from the water. It really was a nice place for him to sleep.

Once they were done, Brados checked on Raini quietly, and sighed in relief. "Good, we didn't wake her up," he whispered and handed his brother an extra blanket. "The water is a few feet back behind the food if you need either. Feel free. Good night, brother," he whispered to Kendal.

Kendal nodded and hugged his older brother. It wasn't a shy hug, it was a real hug. "Thank you brother. For sticking up for me. I promise I won't let you down."

Brados hugged his brother back. "Thank you for not being angry with me for the way I treated you in the old pack. I don't deserve a brother like you," he said seriously.

He smiled and then let go of his brother, looking back at Raini. "I really do want to help her. She's beautiful and doesn't deserve this sort of pain..." he sighed.

Brados nodded in agreement. "You're right, she doesn't deserve this pain. I should get back to Sam and Kendal. Good night, brother. Sleep well."

"Sleep well." He replied softly, sitting on his newly made bed. He watched Raini for a while before turning into his wolf form and laying down, his head in Raini's den.

Brados walked back to his den and laid down, laying Sam's head on his chest and Conall next to her head, so they'd all stay comfortable and warm with each other.

The next morning, Raini woke up with new tears. She sighed and sat up, blinking when she saw Brados' brother's head in the entryway of her den. She stared at him for a minute, wondering what he was doing there.

Sam slowly woke up, cuddling closer to Brados. She reached up and rubbed her hand over Conall's stomach.

Brados snored softly as Conall gurgled and whimpered. He was hungry.

Sam sighed, sitting up and taking Conall off Brados' chest. She pulled her shirt down and bared her breast to her son so he could eat.

Kendal opened his eyes and saw Raini looking at him. He got up and took a step into the den. 'Are you alright this morning? Do you need anything to eat?' he asked.

Conall ate hungrily and hiccuped when he was finished.

Raini stared at him for a minute before answering. "Why do you care so much," she asked him, wrapping her blanket around herself. It was a chilly morning.

Sam smiled at him. "Better?" she asked, nuzzling him lovingly.

He went over to her, laying beside her, letting his head rest on her thigh. He used his warmth to help keep her warm. 'I've seen girls in my old pack suffer like you have and it broke my heart. I want to help.'

Conall gurgled happily, waving his little arms.

"Brados told me it was really violent... So much that he refused to talk about it, let alone go into detail... Was it really that bad," she asked quietly, having the urge to put her hand on his head and stroke his fur in thanks for offering his warmth.

Sam smiled, looking over at Brados, he was still asleep, so she got up, going outside to get herself some food with Conall.

Kendal sighed, closing his eyes. 'I was pretty bad. Fights every night. Our women would be raped, the small and submissive ones like myself would often be beat.' he whimpered at the memories and moved a little closer to her for his own comfort.

Raini frowned and stroked his fur. "I'm sorry," she murmured. "You'll be safe here. We all protect each other as best we can," she bit her lip, fighting more tears.

He sighed and nodded. He looked up at her, his eyes loving. 'do you need anything?'
