| "Sure." Russel said, appreciating that she was changing the subject. It struck a certain nerve with him and he tended to ramble on about it until someone stopped him and turned his sights on to something else. "So you paint as well as draw?" he asked her, following her to go and see the picture that she was telling him about. |

| Alex nodded and lead him downstairs, where there were two large paintings. One was of the view out of a hotel room in Italy. The other was a painting of the park. "My mom did that one," she pointed to the view of Italy. "She said that was the view of the city after the night I was conceived," she shrugged. "And this one," she pointed to the park, "Mom and I did maybe six months ago. We're thinking of doing one for each of the seasons and hang them in the living room." | |

| Russel nodded his head thoughtfully, though inside his mind was anywhere but on the paintings that she was showing him. While Russel had spent the past few months changing his image and musical genre to find a girl who he had foolishly gained an infatuation for, the girl had been out living. In other words, she was real. She wasn't like one of those cardboard bimbos that he was so accustomed to. Alex had hopes and dreams as well as a family and hobbies. What had he really hoped to accomplish when he had written that song for her all of those months ago? He had cut his hair and gained a new wave of fans, and deep down it had all probably be done in hopes to bed a girl whom he hardly knew. |

| She glanced at him, her mouth open to ask his opinion on the second painting, but she noticed he was deep in thought. She closed her mouth and looked back to the paintings, wondering what it was like in Italy. Her mom had promised that they'd go one day, but they didn't have the money and it didn't look like they'd ever have it. | |

| "Have you ever been to Italy?" he finally managed to ask. Russel was realizing now just how selfish and stupid he had been for writing that song in hopes of finding her. None of his attentions had been pure; He had foolishly been planning to sleep her and then just dump, just as he always did. Why was it that he had never thought about the consequences to his actions? How did the other girls from his past feel? They had allowed him to sleep with them, but had they wanted more? Shaking her head, he decided the best way to make up for his alterior motive was to help her achieve at least one of her dreams. |

| She looked at him and chuckled. "How weird, I was just thinking of that." She shook her head. "No. Mom promised to take me one day, but we don't have the money." She shrugged. "Maybe I'll get to go on my own one day. I dunno." | |

| Russel shrugged her shoulders awkwardly, as if her predicament truly was one that could not be solved. "I, erm.." he mumbeled, cursing himself for not being able to form his thoughts into words as well as most people. "My band is going to be touring around in Italy for the entirety of the winter." he explained, and then quickly added, "We might even tour some other European countries for a little bit in Spring. Would you, um, be interested in coming with us?" Coming with them for what reason, though? He needed to work on formulating plans better than did! |

| She looked up at him, her eyes wide in surprise. "You... Really? Me? Seriously," she asked, unable to believe she was being offered to go to Europe. "Oh, but what about the money? It's so expensive... I wouldn't feel right..." | |

| He coughed a bit as he fumbeled over what would be a good excuse for her to come with him while his band toured through Italy. "Well... you have a lot of charisma, you know? And you're really good at painting and what not. You'd probably be really good at advertising shows, you know? Or maybe you can be a techie and work the lights for when we're on stage. Whatever... Any help is good." He felt he owed it to her to help her achieve one dream when he had wasted her time for such a petty reason. |

| She smiled, elated. "I would love to. Gotta make sure it's okay with Mom, though," her smiled turned sheepish. "But Mom doesn't get home for another hour or so," she said, looking down at her watch. "Hmm... Oh, I almost forgot. Could you help me with something? Mom and I have been picking our brains out trying to figure out what's wrong with this painting," she pointed to the painting of the tree. "It's missing something, but we don't know what it is. Maybe you can help?" | |

| Russel looked at the painting thoughtfully, his brow furrowing. He wasn't always the most influencial or deep of a person, a flaw that he hadn't really noticed until right then. "There isn't enough life in the painting." he finally stated, as if it made perfect sense. A soft sigh passed his lips and he looked at her sheepishly. "I wish I could explain it a little better, but I can't." he muttered. |

| She blinked and looked back at the painting. "Not enough life..." she repeated, barely audible. She thought a moment before a smile spread across her face. "You're a genius! Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you," she smiled at him happily. | |

| He couldn't help but smile a little bit, pleased for once to be called a genius. "No problem." Russel answered, though he wasn't sure exactly how much of a help to her he could have possibly been. Shrugging his shoulders, he glanced over to the clock. Eventually, while they chattered on about paintings and Italy and his tour time flew by and soon it was time for her mother to be home. |

| She smiled, tempted to hug him for helping her, but that would be weird. Right? She grinned, hearing her mom walk int the door. "I'm home," her mom called. "Down here, Mom!! Come quick!" Her mom came down the stairs. "What is it, sweetie? Oh! Who's this," she asked, noticing Russel. | |

| Russel was a bit surprised that Alex's mom did not know who he was, though he decided that it would be best to just not take it to heart at all. Brushing some hair from his eyes, he smiled. "Hello, ma'am, my name is Russel." No point in trying to gloat and point out that he was an inctedibly popular musical artist just yet. |

| Of course, her mom had no clue when it came to popular music nowadays. She hardly ever listened to the radio. When she did, it was around Christmas so she could sing along to the classic holiday songs. Alex' mom smiled. "My name is Rachel. It's a pleasure to meet you Russel. Welcome to our home." She then turned to her daughter. "You wanted to tell me something?"
"Yeah! Look at the tree," she said, clearly excited. "Do you think it has enough life," she asked, smiling at Russel as she let the idea sink in. | |

| "Oh, hello, Rachel..." he hesitated a bit on calling her by her first name, unsure of whether or not that was what she really wanted. When Alex went on to ask her mother if the picture seemed to have enough life in it, he flushed, embarassed that she was actually taking his advice. It only happened once in a blue moon when a person decided to take what he said seriously. |

| Alex walked along the outside of the concert hall where Russel's first concert in Italy was, posters in her arms. She was so excited to be here - she was hardly seen without a smile on her face, except when she was working on advertisements. She placed the posters for all his concerts along the brick walls, about ten feet apart, and by the ticket stand. When she was done setting up the posters outside, she moved inside, putting them on the food and drink stands, with the permission of the stand owners, of course. After she was completely done, she practically skipped backstage. "Done," she told Russel, cheerful. "Anything else you need me to do?" | |

| There was a sort of amusement that danced in Russel's eyes as he watched Alex prance about the concert hall, tacking up her posters outside to let people know of his upcoming concert. As she skipped backstage towards him, her heart the gentle chuckle of his bandmates who had convinced themselves that Russel and Alex were dating, or in the very least sleeping together. "Oh, hmm," he said thoughtfully, glancing down at his watch. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet. Opening it and taking out a credit card, he smiled and handed it to her. "Why don't you go and buy something pretty to wear at the concert?" he asked, chuckeling softly. "It is your first concert in Italy, after all." |

| "You've paid for my plane ticket and everything. I can't take more of your money. I'd feel horrible," she told him, knowing how expensive everything was - she and her mom had researched prices for the longest time before they'd finally given up. | |

| Russel pouted. "You're going to make me feel bad if you don't accept my present." Alex had been overly worried about accepting presents from him and he couldn't understand why. Despite popular belief, they had grown to be good friends at the least. He would have liked to go a little further, though Alex was showing little to no interest in going in that particular direction. |

| She thought for a moment, and sighed, giving up. "Alright. Thank you," she said fervently, taking the card. "I'll be back soon. I won't spend too much," she promised and hurried so she'd be back in time for the concert. She found a cute outfit that she could combine with some of her own clothes and went ahead and bought them, not spending over fifty dollars. A black vest, a cute plaid lolita skirt to match, and some tights to wear under it, with boots of course. And a matching hat. She pulled a white t-shirt on under the vest and her outfit was complete. She went back to Russel, the waves in her hair bouncing slightly, and handed him the card, looking at him as if she were embarrassed. "Is this okay," she asked. | |

| Russel grinned as she walked over to him and took the card back in one smooth motion. "But of course," he said, smiling at her. "You look very cute." And with that he excused himself so that he could go practise with the rest of the band. The concert would be starting in fifteen minutes and they had all agreed to rehearse Bed of Roses, which would be the closing to the show. |

| What made the song so popular was all of the power and emotion that was put into it. When Russel had written it all of those months ago, it had been from all of his raw feelings for Alex. It seemed so funny that as he was getting closer to her she still didn't realize it at all. "I wanna lay you down in a bed of roses... Tonight I sleep in a bed of nails..." The pianist was going along with his words, the keys seeming to vibrate off of the walls. |
