| Fine.
Let the Earth breath through you. Be the wind... Feel the rain... Victoria chanted softly as her hand gently moved above the boiling black cauldron. On that specific day her grandmother had told her that she was to work on a spell that would help to water the plants in the garden. Of course instead of simply letting her use her powers to make the herbs and vegetables grow more vibrantly, her grandmother had insisted that the spell be more focused on water. This was all due to her weakness of the control of the other elements.
She'd had her eyes closed before, but nervously let one open to make sure that the potion looked alright. It was a fine emerald, and soon changed to a calming blue. Victoria gasped softly, surprised that her spell was working. But this did not last long, for soon her spell quite literally blew up in her face. She stood there for a few minutes, blinking from shock, and then sighed. It was so ironic that another one of her weaknesses was healing spells. With a bitter laugh she went to go clean herself up. |

| James sighed as he sat behind the counter of the butcher's shop. Why did everything have to be so boring. The old man was loosing his marbles and he was stuck here while his mother sailed the world on her merchant ship.
His father married his young mother when he was in his 40s. Why his mother decided to settle down with a man like him was beyond James. No too long after he was born and that was what his father wanted. He devorced his mother and got custody over him and he only saw his mother once every 5 months. Each time he begged his mother to store him away upon her vessel. But each time she only shook her head sadly and told him he belonged here with his father.
James didn't want that life. He didn't want to be some commoner butcher. He had dreams. He dreampt of sailing the world on his boat, fighting with the roughest pirates, selling the most expensive silk to Japanese Emporers, falling in love with the most beautiful woman and having his own son by his side and a daughter by her mothers and sailing the world together on the highseas.
His dreams were wretched from him on his 14th birthday when his father presented him his tool of the trade. Tool of the trade was a tradition in the town. The father presented his son on his 14th birthday the tool of the trade he wanted his son to go into. Of course...This came to no surprise to James. His father wanted him to run the family shope. So he went under his wing to be the butcher his father wanted him to be.

| Victoria had been raised by her grandmother for most of her life. Of course she'd had a mother and father at one point, as every person did. But her parents were taken from her early in her life when they had been caught practising magic. Burned at the stakes, her only choice in life was to let her grandmother pack up and take them away to a new colony. Life was rough and sometimes it was hard to get by, her mother by a full fledged witch, and as a cover being a seamstress, but they still made it.
She, herself, was still working on taming her powers, only having discovered them on her thirteenth birthday. That might have seemed like a long time to many others, but over the first year alone the most that she had been able to accomplish was being able to get things to move a few inches. During her fourteenth year of life she had learned how to change the appearance of things, something that she took much joy in. Her fifteen year, however, was when she learned how to control the Earth and it's plants. She had spent much of the past two years learning how to curb these powers.
Now at age seventeen, she was learning how to get a grip on the other elements, something that she was not good at. Her training normally wore her out, and she would have to take several days to rest before she tried again. When she wasn't training she was working beside her grandmother in the dress shop.
But people thought her odd and she knew it. This had nothing to do with any of them suspecting her to be a witch. What people thought odd was that she was a beautiful girl, and yet se had cropped her hair to a short bob. What people thought odd was that many had caught her reading instead of gossiping away with other girls. What people thought odd was that she was seventeen years old and yet she had yet to be married off to any of the eligible men in the colony. |

| James looked and saw the old grandfather clock saying 6:45pm. Time to close up shope. He got off his chair and stored the cooked meats in the cubbords and he ran out. This was the only time of day he was allowed out of the house. He took great pleasure in walking about the town. Of course all the girls were now were heading for dinner sharing thier day's gossip with thier younger sisters and mothers.
James sighed as he walked out to the docks to sit and watch the sunset. It was a lonely life and he felt so alone in the new world.

| Once she had cleaned herself and rebrushed her hair, Victoria walked back into the backroom. The potion in her cauldron had gone down considerably and was now a violent red looking color. She gulped, and then sighed, knowing that she would have to go collect some more ingredients for it. Ingredients which they were out of. "Bugger.." she muttered under her breath, sighing and going to fetch her basket.
After putting on her bonnet, and making sure that her outfit was in rights, she left the house to go collect the ingredients that she needed for her potion. A few dragon flies, some leafs, and a few other naturely ingredients. It was mostly a bother to her not because it was late but because this was the time where most people were getting off from work. She wouldn't get to be as discreet with collecting her ingredients with so many people about.
Girls would see her collecting leafs and pine cones and think her odd. And then that would be another month of people gossiping about her behind her back, calling her all sorts of bad names. What joy. |

| James sighed softly as the sunsetted on the horizon.
" What can you see? On the horizon The ships have come to carry you home
Across the sea A pale moon rises And all will turn to silver glass A light on the water All ships pass into the west"

| Victoria walked quietly through the town, her head down, not wanting to make eye contact with anyone. As she passed by someone, she heard the soft melody in their voice as they sang a few lyrics. She stopped to briefly glance over her shoulder, and saw that it was the butcher's song. She couldn't help but go back to talk to him.
He had given her a good price on a rack of lamb that she had needed for her grandmother's birthday.
"Hello, Mr. Redfard." she said, gently bowing her head. This was how women were to adress men, and she didn't want to get into any more trouble. "Are you heading off to supper?" |

| " Oh hello, Miss. I'm not heading to supper. My father as full heartidly went out drinking as usual for the night. I am on my own for supper." Which in fancy terms meant, he wasn't going to get any dinner. | |

| Victoria wrinkled her nose at this. Well, that wasn't acceptable at all. "I don't see how that is possible, Sir, when you are dining with me tonight." she said, smiling pleasantly. She was kindly, albeit a bit pushy, inviting him to have dinner with her. It wouldn't be fair for him to go hungry while his father was out whoring. "I'm quite sure that you'll like dinner. So long as you don't mind collecting a few ingredients with me." |

| "I am only doing what any decent person would do." Victoria answered softly. "Now, if we hope to be home before dark, we should start collecting now. If you wouldn't mind collecting some chrysanthimum?" Victoria asked. She would be looking for a few different leafs and pinecones. Maybe a few dragon flies and butterflies while she was out here. But nothing too out of the ordinary when she was with anyone other than her grandmother. |

| "Chrysanthimum grows in that brush over there." she said, pointing to the brush a few yards away from them. "I'll be over her collecting some berries." He would undoubtedly find it odd if he found that she was collecting leafs and pinecones. |

| ' Alright." He replied. He didn't question it, then again he didn't get out much to know to question it. | |

| It was a simple request. A lot of women liked to use chrysanthimum in their stews and broths. It wasn't like she had asked him to go fetch her some eye of newt! Once they had both gathered the ingredients, she gently nodded her head, and lead him to the cottage that both her and her grandmother shared. |

| "Home sweet home." Victoria remarked softly once they reached the old cottage. After making sure that all if the ingredients were in her basket, she showed him to the sitting room, and then went off to the kitchen to behin to prepare supper. |

| Victoria quietly walked through the cottage, making sure to cover up anything that could be seen as odd or unusual. Once she reached the kitchen, she began to set up and start to prepare dinner. Her grandmother would be coming home late that night, so she wouldn't need to worry about making her supper, for she would probably stop at an inn for something to eat. |
