She shrugged her shoulders, drinking another spoonful of broth. "Call them what you want, but they're all that a girl like me has to choose from." And she had already been turned down by a fraction of them. Honestly, she didn't care if she grew to be an old maid. It wasn't as if marrying meant the same thing as being in love. But she did need to find a way to support both her and her grandmother.

She was almost protested against that. Even if he was only the butcher's son, he still brought something to the table. He seemed quite intelligent considering his rank in Society, and he wasn't hard on the eyes either. But such things could not be said without there being another meaning behind it. And she really didn't know what that meaning was. Victoria laughed bitterly. "Society wants nothing to do with me." Surely he knew that she had been deemed odd by the whole town!

"Thank you." she said softly. It was great to hear a compliment for once, though Victoria knew that being nice would not find her a husband. What a husband wanted was a beautiful, meek wife who would stay home and tend to the many children that they would have. That just wasn't Victoria.

Victoria had dreams of just leaving this dreary, plebian town. But she never could because she herself really didn't have a lot of money to her name. She was in her own personal hell, bound to a closeminded town who mistook change and uniqueness as bad and evil.

It was a well known fact; People feared the unknown. Once she had finished eating, Victoria rose to her feet and began to collect the dirty dishes to bring them to the sink. There was already lukewarm, soapy water poured in for her to let the plates soak in.

"Wouldn't that be interesting to see?" Victoria murmured under her breath as she looked down at the foamy water. She tended to talk to herself now and then, unable to hold back her sarcastic comments or musings on life. "Would you like for me to escort you home?" she asked.

"I wouldn't mind it." she said, chuckeling, and going to fetch her shawl. "My grandmother is working late tonight, and it gets terribly lonely. It will give me the excuse to have someone to talk to, even if it is only for a short while." Victoria added, taking his hand, and then smiling.

In the time that they were living in, hand holding ws obscene. Not that Victoria actually cared. Smiling softly at him, she then walked out of the small cottage with him, and walked down the dirt path road. She wasn't sure how far his home was from her's, nor how dark it would be when it would be time for her to travel the path on her own.

Already the sky was dim, the last tufts of pink fading away into the inky blue. Stars were starting to poke out and dot the sky, creating familiar patterns known as constellations. Every now and then Victoria would pause to try and search for certain patterns, preferably easy ones like the Big Dipper.

Victoria knew what it felt like to think that you didn't belong. Unfortunately, her case was a lot worse than his. While he was a human and would probably eventually find a place where he belonged, she would always remain a witch. And as a witch she was an outcast and a freak and would never trully belong anywere. "Yeah..." she said softly.
