The Future Does Not Scare Me ~Private~

Marcus picked up " hello?~" he was interupted by harry's scream of excitment over the ringing noise of the phone. " Sorry. Harry shhh" he said. Harry just let out a long gurgle at him. " I'm sorry again. "

Lizzy couldn't help but laugh, though she also felt a bit of bitter nostalgia since Emmett had once been like Harry. "How are things over there?" She wasn't sure if Marcus would come over to see the kids when he still had Harry to look over. He was trying more and more to let Jacey have more free time and Lizzy wasn't sure if Jacey was even currently with Marcus.

" Oh just fine. Busy with Harry. Though we finally turned things around and now he's laughing instead of crying all the time." he said as harry tugged at Marcus' beard.

"That's nice..." Lizzy said, nodding her head and glancing over at Emmett. She understood that Marcus was busy, yet at the same time she knew that her son needed his dad. "So..." she mumbled, her voice a bit awkward. "I was wondering if I could swing by later and drop Emmett if. He really wants to see you." She understood that asking him to watch both Emmett and Melody would be hard, but perhaps with just Emmett, who adored his little brother things would be easier for Marcus.

"Oh sure. You know he's allowed over anytime. does melody want to come too?" he asked.

"I'm not sure. I think that the little girl just wants to sleep for the afternoon." Whether or not he thought that he was up to the challenge of watching three kids she still din't want to test him. Harry was only a few months old and he demanded a lot of attention. Already it was pushing things by adding Emmett to his list of people to look after. Adding another baby just wasn't fair.

" Ok then. She's welcomed any time." he said gnetly

"You work way too hard, you know." she commented, playing with a strand of hair. "Sometimes you deserve to have a day off, go out dancing with Jacey or something." Smiling a bit, she then told him goodbye and that Emmett would be over in half an hour. "Ok, Buddy." she said, tousling Emmett's hair, "Let's drive to Daddy's."

" Yay!" Emmett smiled as he packed his backpack with some toys to play with and his crayons and coloring books.

"Now remember, your father is also looking after his other little boy. If he needs to leave you alone for a little bit to put Harry down for a nap or to eat don't take it to heart, alright?" It felt silly to say this because back at home Emmett faced the same thing when either her or Ryan were looking after Melody. It just seemed like a different situation, however, when he was going to see Marcus.

" I know mommy. Daddy lets me help feed harry. I got to hold him once and feed him. " he said smiling.

"I was just checking." Lizzy said, chuckling a bit. As much as she enjoyed Emmett and his cutesy little boy moments she was proud of how mature Emmett could be. Sure there were times where he would throw a tantrum because for once he wanted her attention over the baby's, but for the most part he loved his little sister and brother and liked to help take care of them like any good big brother would.

Emmett buckled up and happily waited to go to his Dad's.

Lizzy's greatest concern currently was that Emmett still hadn't comprehended what Jacey's role in his life was. While she assumed that Marcus and Jacey kept things G around the children she was surprised that it was to the point that Emmett sort of just assumed that Jacey was a friend of Marcus's who also just happened to be the mother of his little brother.

Emmett didn't think much about the whole situation. He was a little kid.

As they pulled into the driveway Lizzy looked back at her son one more time before stopping the car and getting out. Helping him out of his carseat she then picked up Melody and walked with her son to the front door where she let him ring the doorbell like a big boy. "Remember, you be good. Help your daddy and look after your little brother."

Emmett nodded "yes mommy"


Marcus opened the door "hey little man" he smiled as emmett hugged him.

"Hey Marcus." Lizzy said, watching as Emmett practically launched himself at his father and wrapped his arms around his father's legs which was as high as he could reach at his current height. He looked so tired even though he was trying to cover it up with a smile. "Is Jacey here?" Lizzy asked, turning to look over to see if Jacey's car was there.

" She's getting some chinese food for dinner." He explained as he welcomed her inside.

Lizzy bit the inside of her cheek, hesitant to step inside Marcus's house. She had been in there a few times before, mostly if she was letting both Melody and Emmett spend the night and she felt she needed to lay down some rules, though that was mostly between long, long intervals. The house had reminded her of her life with Marcus at the very beginning and sometimes it was too painful to be inside because it was still a sore spot with her. "Oh," she said after a long minute and then looked back down at Melody who was laying in her little basket. "I can't come inside, it's nearly time to put Melody down for a nap. Thank you though." she said, offering a brief smile. After squeezing Emmett and kissing him goodbye (and mentioning for the upteenth time to be good) she left.

Marcus knew it was hard for both of them. He put on a disney movi for the boys to watch. He sat in his recliner chair.

Jacey came home a little while later with a large bag of Chinese food which obstructed her vision. She placed the bag down and was surprised to see Emmett though she greeted him with a kiss on the cheek and a light tossling of the hair. After kissing Marcus she walked into the kitchen and started to set up the table. Soon it would be her turn to look after Harry and Marcus would be able to get some well deserved sleep.

" May I help set the table, Jacey" Emmett smiled at her. " I can place the napkins and forks and spoons." he said.


Marcus was proud of Emmett and grateful to Lizy for raising him so well.


Marcus got up and changed a stinky Harry and started to warm up some mashed carrots and he pureed some egg roll. It was just cabbage and a little pork in it.

"Why thank you." Jacey said, smiling and handing him the paper plates and the silverware. She liked Emmett and was impressed by how polite she was though she hardly ever got to see Melody and seeing Lizzy was almost completely out of the question. Sighing softly to herself, she watched as Marcus pureed an eggroll in the blender and chuckled. Most of the time Harry was on a strict diet of Gerber baby food but sometimes after some insisting she would let Marcus give Harry some more "grown up" food.

Marcus didn't want him to be picky about food. So he was starting him early on different kinds of food. He did this with Emmett when he was a baby.


" I remember Daddy giving me some eggroll when I was little. It was yummy" Emmett smiled happily as he neatly set the table. Everything was in the right spot and nothing looked off or out of place. Precise and orderly.
