A Werewolf's Heart Part 1.2

He rubbed her back gently and lovingly. "Something wrong?"

"I wish Al were here," she murmured.

[going to bed, night]

He sighed sadly and wrapped his arm around her waist and slowly pulled her into his lap. "I'm sorry. I'm doing all I can to make you happy. Really." he said, kissing the side of her neck lovingly. He really did love her and hoped his little gestures like this would show it.

She felt a tingle in the place where he kissed but her expression didn't change anymore than her mood did. "She'll never know how much he wanted to have her. How much he already loved her - even when I wasn't showing..." she rambled, tears spilling otu of her eyes.

Kendal kissed her neck again, hoping to get her to feel a little bit better. "I think she will. You say yourself that Al isn't really gone. Maybe you daughter will see him too." he said, holding her closer.

"See him, maybe," she mumbled. "But she could never be held by her daddy..."

He decided to be brave he took a breath and said, "I could be her daddy." softly as he rubbed her belly softly and lovingly. He really did love Raini and her baby, he wanted to be a part of their lives.

She growled and shook her head. "You're not Al. He is her daddy, no one else," she growled.

Kendal looked at her, a little hurt. "But why? I'll take care of her, love her. I'll be a good dad." he said.

"Because Al is her daddy."

"A kid can have 2 dads." he said.

She growled in disagreement. "My baby's daddy is dead."

He nodded. "So is your love..." He said softly. Slowly, he moved her off of his lap and stood. "If you need me call my name." He said then walked away, knowing that she wouldn't call him. Not for anything.

She blinked and felt her heart sink, biting her lip.

He walked away to the river. The pack could still see him so if anything happened, he wouldn't be far. His heart broke then. She didn't love him the way that he loved her. He scoffed. Why would she? He wasn't anything, nothing compared the the man that was her previous mate.

God, what have I done... he doesn't deserve me... she thought miserably, feeling horrible.

Sam saw what had happened and went over to sit by Raini. "Hey." she said softly, pretending for a moment that she didn't see.

"Hey," she said, on the verge of tears.

"You need a hug?" She asked, now letting on that she saw everything.

She nodded, the tears spilling over, choking back a sob.

Sam scooted closer and wrapped her arms around her.

Raini cried, feeling horrible for hurting Ilane and Kendal. Horrible and guilty.

"No one blames you for being so short." She said softly. "You just lost your mate and you're pregnant. Ilane understands but you really hurt Kendal." She knew she wasn't making things better but sometimes people needed to hear things like this.

She cried. "I didn't mean to... But... He can't be her daddy... Can he...?"

Sam nodded. "Yes, he could. Al's gonna be around but Kendal is here now and, I don't know about you, but the whole pack can see that he loves you. You could let him love you."
