Molly had been flipping through the channels boredly when he asked her who his father was. A soft sigh passed her lips and she turned off the TV and pulled him into her lap. What could she say? She couldn't say that she didn't know because that wasn't the truth. She did know who his father was, but she knew that Jason would never meet him and that his father would never even know he had a son. She didn't want Jason to get hurt. "Your father was someone who a very long time ago meant a lot to me..." she sighed softly, "But after a while I guess things changed and we didn't care about eachother anymore." It was a lie because she still cared about Dom, but she didn't want Jason to think that one day he would find his dad and they would be one big happy family. Besides, Dom probably did hate her.

" If he did care about you.....then why hasn't he been in my life? Am I the reason he isn't here? Did I do something bad to make him go away? Or does he know I exist?" he said gently.

Molly breathed in and then sighed. It was so hard to explain the situation to her son, especially when she didn't want to. "You haven't done anything wrong, Sweetie. Your father loves you." She knew that Dom would love Jason; who wouldn't? The thing was, he could never know about Jason. It just wasn't meant to be. "He doesn't care about me anymore, Sweetheart. It's me, not you. You haven't done anything wrong." she hugged Jason and kissed the top of his head. "Aren't you happy with me? And wasn't Dawson (her previous husband) nice to you?"

" Its nothing against you or Dawson its just how long can you expect me to believe that a stork just droped me on your door step? I just wanted to know who he was." he muttered not pressing it.

Molly sighed. She never tried to lie to him about who his father once. Never once had she lied and said something like Dawson was his biological father or had gone on about the stork. In the end she had tried to be as truthful as she could be. "The bottom line is that your father was someone who's path crossed with my own for a little bit before it was time for him to leave." Shaking her head she got off. "let's go to the park now." She grabbed one of his presents. "You can open this when we get there." she added, smiling.

Molly took his hand and walked out the door with him. As they walked to the park, she sighed and looked over at him. "His name was Dom." she answered softly, and smiled despite herself. It felt like a long time since she had said his name. "But that wouldn't matter much to you because you would call him Daddy." Though they would never meet.

" I can't call him Daddy because I probably won't meet him" He said sadly.

Dom was sitting on a park bench and stretched. He petted his dog Sammy and sighed. Despite everything he missed Molly.

Molly sighed and looked down at her son sadly. How could she tell him to not be upset when he had every right to want to know who his father was? As they reached the park she noticed a man sitting far off one one of the benches with a dog. Shrugging off a sudden feeling of anxiety she walked over to the swing set with Jason. "Want to swing, buddy?" she asked.

Dom looked older these days. He had longer hair and his eyes no longer had that boyish sparkle, They were tired and sad looking.

Jason nodded and got on the swing

All Molly wanted was for her son to be happy. "Ok, hunny. Here we go!" she said happily, pulling back his swing and then letting go. She pushed him a few times until he got the hang of it and then sat beside him in the other swing and began to swing with him. She laughed and enjoyed herself, pushing away her previous thoughts of Dom.

Dom looked over at the woman playing with her son. He wish he had a family.

" That man is watching us" Jason said as he swung. " Now he's not."

Dom went back to grading his papers and he petted his dog.

Molly noted this and briefly glanced over at the man with his dog. She felt that familiar feeling of anxiety and felt that the man looked familiar, though she quickly shook it off once more. "He's probably just a little lonely. But I'm sure his dog will keep him company." She reassured her son. Molly was enjoying her time on the swing, it made her feel younger, like a child.

" Maybe he likes swings too." he smiled. "And he likes seeing people happy" Jason always liked making up stories about people he saw in real life. From thier neighboor, Mrs. Figg who he said was a secret fairy who loves to bake peaches into pies because they made people happy even if they were sad to begin with.

Molly was a bit iffy about inviting the man to come over to the swings. She hadn't fully touched over the fact that there were bad people in the world that Jason needed to worry about. The man didn't look too bad though. With some reluctance she got up from the swing with Jason and walked over to the man to invite him to go on the swings.

" I saw you looking at the swings and I thought maybe you would like to swing with me and my mommy" he smiled.

Dom looked up. " Oh, no thank you. I have alot of papers to grade" he smiled.

" Ohh are you a teacher? " Jason asked.

" yes I am" Dom smiled.

" I love going to school ^-^" Jason chirpped happily. " well you're still invited to swing" he smiled as he ran back to the swings.

" He's a very nice boy you have there." Dom said to the mother. " He reminds me alot of myself when I was younger. Full of life and always happy" he chuckled. " My name is Dom. Nice to meet you."

Molly was quiet as her son went on with his innocent exchange between him and the man who thankfully was kind to Jason and humored him and his boyish innocence. Once her son had left she sat beside the man and thanked him for the kind things that he said about Jason. When he introduced him as Dom she realized why he seemed so familiar and why he felt that Jason reminded him a lot of himself as a child. "Thank you. My name is Molly. It was nice meeting you too." she said softly, and then got up and went back to the swing with Jason.

Dom blinked. " Molly?" He murmered. " I used to know well....date a Molly....that was a long time ago.....she was young...and I guess wanted someone her own age. Understandable" he murmered.

Molly was quiet. He didn't recognize her. Of course it had been eight years since the two had last been together, but she was only twenty five years old. She felt even older than she normally felt and sighed softly as she sat on the swing beside Jason. Jason looked so much like Dom now that she really looked at the two of them. "I suppose it is understandable." she said quietly to Dom. "Some people aren't meant to be together."

"Maybe she was the one who couldn't give you a good life." Molly said quietly, looking down at her feet as she went back and forth on the swings. She wanted to leave but knew that she couldn't be too quick or else Dom would suspect her. It was already pushing things that he didn't recognize her or the fact that her son looked like him.

Her swing had slowly begun to stop as their conversation had gone on. When he got up from his seat and revealed to her at least that he recognized who she was, she was silent. He did know, he had known. Did he know about Jason? Could he have guessed that it was his son who was right there before him, who he was seeing for the first time. "Thank you, Dom. Good day to you too." she whispered quietly.

She sighed gently and then shook her head. "You have no proof that he is your's." she said quietly. Of course it was obvious that Jason was Dom's son just by looking at him. The same hair, the same nose, the same lips. All that Molly really shared with Jason was his eyes and his freckles. She didn't want this to be happening, especially not on Jason's birthday.
