Ryder blinked. "A man," he asked, looking around. He spotted him and held back a growl. "Go hide," he told her

She nodded and ran into an alley, hiding just behind the corner. What she didn't know was that it was a rogue chasing her. She was another breedmate.

Ryder pulled out his short sword, his favorite weapon, and tore the rogue up easily, attacking another that was hiding nearby. He went back to check on the girl after taking care of the bodies. "Are you alright," he asked her.

"Who were those guys?" she asked, shivering from fear. She had a breedmark behind her ear.

He held his hand over her eyes and went to whisper to her that she wouldn't remember any of what just happened. But he saw a little birthmark, the size of a dime, behind her ear, and stopped himself, pulling back in shock. "Come with me," he told her, offering her his hand. "I'll keep you safe," he promised, a determined glint in his eye.

she nodded, taking his hand. "Who are you?"

"My name is Ryder," he told her and helped her into the van, driving back to the compound. "I'm taking you to meet my parents and my aunt and uncle. You need to be kept safe from those rogues," he said, looking around anxiously as he read everyone's mind in a two-mile radius.

"What are rogues?" she asked.

"The things that attacked you," he frowned. "My family and I are working to get rid of them for good."

"What are they?" she asked.

"Breed gone to bloodlust. Crazy vampires, basically," he told her.

"Vampires? No! they don't exist!" she said. She didn't know what she was.

"You're a breedmate," he told her gently. "The birthmark behind your ear is the same one my mom and aunt have. All breedmates have that birthmark somewhere on their body. They're the only ones who can give birth to Breed."

"What are you talking about? I want to get out of the car. now!" she said, freakingout.

He cursed and put his hand over her eyes. "Sleep," he murmured, trancing her. "You are safe. Just sleep."

She jumped as he touched her but then fell asleep like he said.

Once they reached the compound, he laid her down in the infirmary, his father not far behind. "Wake up," Ryder murmured to her.

Niko walked in with his mate at his side.

The girl woke up, looking around confused.

Damon looked down at his mate, knowing she could make the girl more comfortable than three well-muscled vampires.

"Hi." Baily smiled softly. "My name is Baily. You're safe here, I promise. None of us are going to hurt you. What's your name?" she asked.

"uhm.... Lilli..." she said softly.

"My name is Damon. Ryder is my son. That's Niko, a close friend of ours. We're here to protect you," he told Lilli gently. "Baily is my mate; she can vouch for us," he smiled lovingly at Baily.

Baily smiled back and nodded.

"What are you?" Lilli asked.

"We are Breed. Good vampires," Damon told her gently. "We want to eliminate the ones who attacked you. We though we did fifteen years ago, when the kids were young," he glanced at his son, remembering the night he'd come home to tell his family the good news.

Baily smiled at him affectionately, rubbing his arm. "You're safe." She told Lilli.

"I'll let you explain what she is, love," he told Baily, kissing her softly. "We have to go discuss what we do from here. I discovered some disturbing news. I'll clue you in later," he promised and left for a room down the hall, the war room. Niko walked after him. Ryder hesitated, but followed after his uncle said his name. He was worried about the breedmate he'd found.
