Kat pulled up in front of her parents house, sighing. She saw that both her parents were home, great. She closed her eyes then got out of the car, walking up to the front door. Her hands stayed locked at her side, till eventually she just let her head fall against the door as tears started to well in her eyes again. Her hand found the door-bell, pressing it very softly one time.

Deryk's boss told him to go home a half-hour earlier than he normally did. His boss understood they were going through a hard time, so he was cutting Deryk some slack. He was also very impressed with how hard Deryk had worked that day.

Deryk agreed after insisting that he could still work. He got home half an hour earlier than he normally did, as well, and read Kat's note. "Kat," he sighed softly and went to get back in his car, driving towards her parent's house. He knew she'd be upset when talking to her parents; he wanted to be there for her.

Kat stared at the door, waiting for someone to answer. She didn't know who was going to, and that was what scared her. She heard the lock tumbling, so she stepped back from the door and wiped her eyes as the door opened. She heard someone pull up at the curb, and smiled weakly to Deryk then turned back. "Karen..." "Katarina... I thought we told you not to come back here..." "Well, I figured... I figured you'd like to know that your grandson died. So you don't have to worry about anything..." Tears slipped down her cheeks as Karen's mouth hung open. "God, let me go get your father... We need to talk." "What are you going to say! Lecture Deryk and myself about our bad decision? Well save it if that's what you're going to get at... Because I'm glad we did what we did..."

Deryk got out and jogged up to Kat's side. "You okay," he asked, kissing her forehead. Deryk looked at her mom, nodding politely. He knew he wasn't on their good side. And to be honest, the feeling was mutual. He kept a hold of Kat's hand, rubbing it with his thumb reassuringly.

Kat smiled at him briefly before she looked up and her dad was at the door, hearing what had been going on from his office. "Katarina, what the hell are you doing here! We told you to get lost." Kat grimaced, then her eyes flashed hatred. "I'm glad you told me to get gone, because if you had a grandson, I'd be sure that they didn't see you." "How dare you-" "How dare you! Kick me out... God, the cruel irony... I'd been begging for it for so long, but when I needed it least, it happened. Well, the better for me I guess. Not so much for you huh?" "Don't you dare act like you wanted to leave!" "Oh trust me, I did. I was sick of the perfect-family persona! It's suffocating! You wouldn't know, Mr. Big-shot-economist-government-official. And neither would Mrs. trophy-wife-never-worked-a-day-in-her-adult-life. It makes me sick. I've worked more than my mom has in her whole life, and I know more about a person and the way things work than my dad could ever teach me. So take one last look, cause I'm not coming back again. My stuff's out of the house, so there's no need to think about coming back. Thanks for helping me see that."

"How dare you call yourselves parents," Deryk basically growled. "You abandoned her when she needed you most. I guess it's better than my own sorry excuse for a father," he grunted. "But she came to you when she needed you. She trusted you, and you let her down. Even if our son did survive, I wouldn't have let him meet grandparents who did that to his mom. It would have been just us three, starting our own family-no grandparents. But he didn't survive, and you're still not offering her help." He glared at them. "I will never hurt Kat. Never abandon her. I will always love her, always take care of her."

Kat rested her head on his shoulder, shaking her head slowly. "Love, its no use with them. They made up their minds when I was pregnant..." Jared grunted, rolling his eyes. "You'll never make it... You'll come back, crawling. You don't know what it's like out there in the world..." Kat smirked. "No, we know exactly what the 'world out there' is like thanks to you." She turned away from her old life, sliding her hand out of Deryk's so she could go back to her car.

"Who knows. Maybe you'll be the ones crawling back to us. After all, you can't have any grandkids without your daughter," Deryk glanced at them coldly. "It'll break your little charade. I suppose that's your problem, not mine. Whatever," he shrugged coldly, going back to his truck. "We going home, babe? Or you wanna go out somewhere," he asked her before he reached it.

Kat bit her lip. "Could we go to the movies?"

"Sure. Whatever you want," he went and gave her a quick kiss and a smile before he went to his truck and started it, waiting for her to lead the way.

Kat smiled, sliding into the car. She started up the car and drove to the movie theater, sliding her seat-belt on at the first red-light.

Deryk followed her, determined to make her feel better by the time they got to bed tonight. Whatever it took, whatever she wanted, he'd do for her.

Kat pulled into the parking lot, turning her radio down some as she turned off the engine. She got out, sitting on the hood of her car as she waited for Deryk.

Deryk pulled into the closest spot to hers and walked to her, taking her hand once he reached her. "You okay," he asked, kissing her softly.

Kat sighed, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him back. "Yeah, I'm fine... It had to be done, and I feel better for it..."

He held her close. "I'll always be here," he promised her. "Always. I love you so much."

Kat smiled warmly, the first genuinely happy smile she'd had since the hospital. "I know you do... I love you too."

He kissed her softly and took her hand. "Let's go," he murmured, wanting to make her happy.

Kat smiled, sliding off the hood and standing next to him. She kissed his cheek, lacing her fingers with his.

He smiled softly at her and held her hand in his, walking inside.

Kat and Deryk ended up going to see Where the Wild Things Are. It was a very cute movie, the characters well portrayed. At least, that's what Kat thought. Where the Wild Things Are was her favorite child-hood book.

[I never read that book. I think we might see it today. XD]

Deryk smiled at her when it was done, feeling a little better, himself. "What'd you think? Worth buying?"

Kat smiled, standing up. "Definitely. I feel loads better now actually. I love how kids movies can make me so happy..."

[Maybe once. But I forgot it. My favorite book was Chika Chika Boom Boom. >>]

He chuckled and kissed her softly. "I'm glad you're feeling better."

Kat kissed him softly, holding his hand again. "Well, if I'm ever in a down mood, put on Disney..."
