He shook his head. "I would need to drink from you to claim you as mine. And complete the bond by giving you my blood. Both of us would be able to sense where the other is then, until one of us dies."

she nodded. "But, what if we don't want that?"

"Then we are merely friends," he told her gently. "Not mates."

"What if we don't want that? What if we want to forget?" she asked.

"Then I can erase your memories as easily as opening a door," he told her. "But you have to be certain."

"What happens to you though?" She asked.

"She's wondering if ther's other breedmates besides us you guys can have." Fairly said.

"There are about half a million Breedmates in the world," he told them, nodding.

"Then why are you so keen on having us?" Fairly asked.

"Having you?" He looked at her in the rearview mirror curiously. "We are protecting you."

"But why us? If ther's so many, can't you get someone who wants to do this?" She asked.

"Someone who wants to do what," he asked her, stopping in front of the dorms.

"Have vampire babies." she said.

"I don't plan to start a family until there's a safe time to," he told them softly.

"Does it have to be with us, like, is it love at first sight or whatever? Does it have to be us?" Fairly asked.

He shook his head. "It could be with anyone. If we mind-swipe you, we will simply go on with our lives. Fighting Rogues every night, hunting for a meal every other."

Fairly nodded. "So we don't really matter?"

"I'm not saying that," Damon told her. "But we would have to keep our distance. We don't want to attract the Rogues' attention to you, but we'll keep our eyes on you, just in case."

"What if we don't fall in love with you guys? Does that matter?"

He looked confused. "If you didn't? Were you talking about if you did before?"

He nodded. "It's all but unheard of for a Breed male and a Breedmate to bond without love," he explained.

"So what if we're not 'the one' for you guy?" she asked. It was her turn to interrogate them.

"You're still counted as friends and we'll do anything to protect you," he assured her, arriving at their dorm.
