He smiled and held her close gently.

Chad smiled as he reached the day care. Jamie was still at school, and he'd offered to watch Hope so she didn't have to stay in day care all day. He walked in and spotted Hope. "Hey, sweetie," he grinned. "Ready to go?"

"Yes yes!" she said happily and made her way over to him after grabbing her coat.

He chuckled and picked her up, giving her a hug. "Where do you want to go while we wait for your mom," he asked as he carried her out.

"Can we go to toys r us!??!?!" she asked excitedly

He laughed. "Alright. Toys 'R' Us, it is," he smiled and started walking towards downtown.

"Yay!" she smiled happily and grabbed ahold of his hand. "Could I get something, maybe?"

He chuckled. "Maybe. Remember, Christmas is coming up. You want to go see Santa? He should be there today."

She gasped and nodded happily before frowning a little and said quietly, "Mommy said Santa might be running short this year....there's too many kids in the world and she heard that the elves aren't making toys fast enough..."

"Yeah... You know that flu that's going around? Some of the elves caught it and had to stop working for a little while. That's why they're short on toys this year," he explained. "How about I take you to Neverland for part of your Christmas," he asked with a smile. "You and Mommy. We'll take a little walk through Neverland."

Hope nodded quietly still bummed out.

He picked her up. "Don't be sad, sweetie," he hugged her. "Christmas is about family, right? Now you, me, and Mommy can all have Christmas together."

Hope nodded quietly and wrapped her arms around her dad.

He hugged her back and set her down, holding her hand as they walked across the street to reach the toy store.

She was trying to smile on the outside but in reality a lump was developing in her throat while she had to hold back tears. Santa always came to her when they were at her grandma's house.....why not now?

Chad looked down at her and frowned, stopping and knealing down in front of her once they crossed the street. "Honey, what's wrong," he asked softly.

"I-I always got presents on Christmas....why am i not getting any now? I was a good kid....I probably did something wrong..." she sniffed and looked the other way watching people walk down the street with their toys...

He blinked. "Of course you're getting presents," he murmured, tucking some of her hair behind her ear. "You didn't do anything wrong, sweetheart. You just won't get as many. That's what your mom meant," he explained softly.

She nodded quietly and burried her head in her dad's chest trying not to cry.
