Alex cried into his chest until she couldn't cry anymore. She wiped her tears and sniffled. "Sorry," she apologized for ruining his shirt.

Alice poked the numbers into her phone, clicked Send, then closed it. She'd sent a text to Bryan:

Meet you at your house in an hour. No whining-we're trying to help.

She sat down, feeling a bit nautious (however you spell that stupid word). Whether it was from the baby in her belly or her stress, she didn't know. She buried her face in her hands, trying to will it to pass, her mouth clamped shut.

Alice got there soon with Bella and Edward. "We're coming in, Bryan," Alice said as she opened the door.

Alex was asleep with her head on Bryan's lap.

"If you do it now, the baby will be born within two or three weeks, and her body will be weaker," Alice murmured.

"But if you do it later, they'll both starve," Bella pointed out.
