The doctor nodded. "We'll do everything we can... His brain is fully developed, so it's mostly his body that needs to finish growing completely... And I'll make sure to do whatever it is in my power to keep him alive." At that the doctor turned and left the room. Kat grimaced, a tear sliding down her cheek.

Deryk nodded and noticed a tear falling down Kat's cheek. "Kitty," he murmured, wiping it away. "It's gonna be okay," he kissed the path the tear had left on her cheek.

Kat whimpered, biting her lip. "No babe... It's not... John's gonna die... They didn't say he would make it through, they just said they were doing everthing they could..."

Deryk lifted her up into his arms and sat on the bed, cradling her close. "Think positive, baby," he whispered. "John's gonna be just fine, they're gonna take care of him."

Kat sighed, resting her head on his shoulders. "God I hope so. I hope so so bad I'd give anything for him to be healthy..."

He held her close. "You know I'd do anything for him if it helped," he kissed her forehead. "Whether it was chopping off my left arm or giving him my own life, I'd do it."

Kat nodded, her head resting on his chest some. "I know you would babe... I know you would..."

He stroked her hair, worrying about their boy, too.

Kat sighed, closing her eyes. She had no idea how fast she fell asleep, but she knew she fell asleep fast. It couldn't be helped either. She was absolutely exhausted.

Deryk sat there, holding her comfortingly as she slept, watching the doctors walk back and forth, listening for any word of his son.

The doctors didn't say much, just that he was stable and that they didn't need to worry.

Deryk eventually dozed off, relaxing somewhat from hearing the doctors say they didn't need to worry. He wouldn't be completely relaxed until he could hold his son and take him home.

Kat slept, but her vitals didn't change. Everything on the machines said she was in labor, or she was having a heart attack. She wasn't sure which personally, but she was still in alot of pain.

Deryk jumped awake when the monitors started going crazy, and looked down at Kat. She was sleeping it seemed, but the crease in her forehead suggested she wasn't peaceful. "Kat, honey," he shook her gently. "Kitty? You okay?"

Her eyes fluttered open, a sense of calm in her eyes while the monitors continued to act crazy. "Yeah? What is it?"

He stared at her, then looked from the monitors to her, back and forth again. "The monitors are going crazy. Are you sure you're okay," he asked worriedly.

Kat nodded slowly, her eyes sliding closed and opened again slowly.

Deryk frowned and pushed the button to call the nurse in. He was surprised, and a bit pissed off, that they hadn't come in. Surely they'd heard her monitors going crazy.

Kat opened her eyes again, the machines slowing down again. She'd been thinking about their son, and what could possibly happen.

Deryk kissed her forehead. "You sure you're okay, baby," asked in a whisper.

Kat nodded, kissing his cheek. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure..." She closed her eyes, resting her head against him.

He held her, worried for both her and their son. He prayed they'd be okay.

As the night slipped into the next day, Kat's health improved. The doctor's kept saying that their baby was fine, but she wasn't sure she could believe them.

Deryk ended up falling asleep, though he hadn't meant to. He was oblivious to what was going on around him.

Kat stayed in the hospital for a few more weeks, just to make sure everything was okay. She had insisted that Deryk go back to school during that time, but he'd refused. And so now, here he lay. Next to her, snoring softly. "God I love you," she murmured, resting herself back and pulling him close so that his head was on her chest. "Sleep well baby..."
