"You'll never know unless you ask," he told her gently.

"Do you drink human blood?" she asked.

He nodded. "It is the only way us Breed can survive. We only take what we need, though. Not enough to weaken our Host, and we erase their memory of it. It brings them pleasure, not pain."

"Have you ever killed someone?" she asked.

"I've only killed rogues. My father closely monitored my feedings until I was old enough to know how much was enough," he told her honestly.

She nodded. "How often do you get hungry?"

"A little every night is good. If I know I'm not going to feed for a while, I'll drink more to sustain myself for the extended period of time."

"Are all vampires as kind as you?" she asked, turning to look at him.

He blinked, the question having throw him off guard. "I'm not sure. I've only met a few compared to how many there are. Though of what my father tells me, not all are like us. Some think that we should rule humans and that they should be our slaves. Some just want blood, and lots of it. We are here to protect the humans and our secret. One day, once the rogues are truly eliminated for good, we may reveal our existence to the world."

"People are going to hate you, you know that." she said softly.

"I know," he murmured. "Breedmates will be in even more danger, then, now that I think about it. Mothers will kill their own daughters so the vampire race isn't continued."

She nodded. "That would be horrible."

He nodded. "It won't happen. Breedmates are our priority."

"And that's why you protected me." she stated, sighing and sitting on her bed. Jedi jumped up, resting his head in her lap.

"And I will continue to do so," he murmured. "Until you find a mate to protect you, himself."

"What if I don't want a mate?" she asked slowly.

"Then I will protect you until the day you die," he told her.

"But why me?" she asked. "What if you get a mate?"

"If I get a mate, I hope she will understand my need to protect. It's what drives me. Otherwise, I'll play video games all day."

She chuckled. "Video games, huh?" she asked.

He nodded. "Yeah. I like racing games. The Burnouts are the best."

She smirked. "I bet I can beat you."

He blinked. "You play video games?"

"I'm a single woman working a part time job... There's not much else to do." she smiled.

He chuckled. "Guess so."
