This Is Just A Dream

She laughed. "You were relaxed by watching me sleep. That's crazy because I'm not generally a calm sleeper."

"You are beautiful in whatever you do. You looked very serene in your sleep, like a queen," he smiled softly.

Jess couldn't stop herself from blushing. "You're too sweet baby..."

He chuckled and kissed her. "Only to you, my love," he murmured softly.

She smiled and kissed him back, wrapping her arms around his neck.

Eric was now chief of staff at the hospital, and one of the lead surgeons on children. He taught most, if not all, of the interns who came in, and showed them how to gain the trust of the kids so they wouldn't put up a big fuss during checkups and examinations.

He went to work early and never really got to see his baby girl, but he always woke her up gently and kissed her forehead before he left. She normally didn't remember these moments, being half asleep, but he always left a 'good morning' note for her, that her mom would read to her during breakfast.

Eric came home early to surprise his beloved wife and daughter. He picked them each up a bouquet of roses and a teddy bear. He walked in the door, smiling with the goodies he'd brought home. "Guess who's home," he called cheerfully.

Jess had spent the past three years taking classes at the university for engineering. She already had an internship with the local turbine factory, helping them design smaller engines and nope energy-efficient turbines for big companies. She had started pay-work a year ago and was quickly gaining prestige. She worked in the early morning hours, so she would have time for her daughter, husband, and the few classes she had in her final years.

Her little girl, Lyla, was in kindergarten already, she had expressed great amounts of intelligence. Of all the kids, she was the one who exceled the greatest.

Walking into the living room from the kitchen, she laughed and kissed him happily. Lyla walked in, giggled, then ran and hugged her daddy's leg. "You home daddy!!!"

Eric smiled and kissed his beloved wife, handing her the red bouquet and teddy bear. He laughed and picked his daughter up, handing her a pink full-size bouquet and matching pink teddy. "I am. How was your day, Lyla," he asked his precious daughter, hugging her and kissing her cheek.

Precious was no small description. There had been quite a few issues during the pregnancy, but Lyla and Jess both came out of the room just fine. Lyla hugged her dad, smiling. "Oh it was sooooo fun!!! I have a parents lunch thingy-ma-bob next monday... Will you and mommy make it, daddy?" Jess kissed her daughter's head, walking into the kitchen. "Of course we will. Isn't that right sweetheart?"

"Of course," Eric smiled. "I'll take myself off of Monday. I'll have the whole day off to play with my girls," he said cheerfully, kissing his daughter's cheek.

She smiled, coming back into the living room with a glass of brandy on the rocks. She pulled her daughter into her arms, handing Eric his glass. He deserted it after the long days he'd been working already.

He smiled and kissed his wife softly as he took his glass. "Thank you, love."

She blushed at the gentle feel of his lips. She occasionally felt like they'd been together only a few months, that strong bond of energy between them still present.

He smiled and kissed her pink cheek before he relaxed in his seat and took a sip of his brandy.

She smiled before taking Lyla to the bathroom to wash up for dinner. It was nothing too special, just spaghetti and garlic bread. She figured it would be nice for Eric, he hadn't had a warm meal with his daughter in a while. And it was everyone's favorite."

Eric got up and went to shower and change before dinner. He took a quick shower, quickly washing himself before dressing in his lounge-around-the-house clothes instead of scrubs. He heard his phone ring and sighed, staring at it before he denied the call and turned his phone off, grabbing his glass of brandy and taking another sip before going to find his girls and give them each a kiss and hug. He missed spending time with them like this. He loved every second of it.

Jess and Lyla were both very glad to have Eric home. Jess gave her daughter a bowl of noodles and sat her at the table, then placed Eric's and her plates at the table as well.

"Thank you, love," Eric smiled at her lovingly.

She smiled, sitting down at the table. "You know it was no problem love."

He smiled. "You're so good to me."
