(Everything is different.)
There wasn't much to do at the shelter. Some women were more open to others and there was even a support group for women willing to lend an ear or even to tell their own story. On her first day at the shelter Lauren wasn't in that kind of mood. She found herself in the small rec room that the shelter had, sifting through the worn books on the bookshelf. She sighed when she found that none of the books really caught her interest and boredly went through the small wardrobe where there were puzzles and a few board games before closing the doors when she yet again found nothing that interested her.

Josh was getting bored with studying and so he went to go see if anyone needed some help or wanted to talk. He started to think back to highschool. Life was so much simpler then. Of course back then he thought everything before high school was simpler. He really regreted not getting a chance to date Lauren. Even if it would have been one of those summer teen romances he would've felt better. Josh hadn't really found anyone he wanted to have a romantic relationship with. lets face it most of the women here were older and needed care not romance.

Lauren laid back on the cot that she had spent the night on and sighed softly to herself as she stared up at the cracks in the ceiling. The place was dingy despite everything. Most of the money and food that the shelter received was through donation. In better words the place wasn't exactly the Four Seasons. Lauren had already gotten sick twice that day from "morning sickness" (even though it happened in the afternoon, during lunch, before dinner...) and was completely empty inside.

Josh started to think on the new woman that arrived and getting a doctor for her. She was pregnant after all.

What did she need a doctor for? She was already sure that neither her or her baby would survive. If she didn't lose the baby in the next few months through a miscarriage than she herself would die from all of the weight loss she had suffered as well as all of the stress that was deffinitely not good for a pregnant woman.

Well right there was the answer as to why he was getting the doctor.

The air felt stuffy in the room but Lauren knew that opening the window would only bring back the icey scythes that had pierced her skin before. She shivered just remembering how cold she had been before and sighed to herself as she looked down at the dowdy clothing so wore, so different from what she would have been wearing a year ago. With another shake of the head she left the room before she could dwell on her past and the mistakes she had made. There had been enough of that.

Josh ended up calling a doctor and went to find the women to tell her.

She had moved to the main room where there were a few women sitting around and whispering secrets while a few others were knitting with whatever scraps of yawn the shelter could offer. Lauren had finally given in to reading one of the aged books from the book shelfs, the pages dusty underneath her fingertips. A romance novel from the 70's that was actually making her stomach turn.
