"I have to thank you, my Maria. You took care of the entire pack until you passed out. We all have to thank you. Once I get my strength back, I'm going to take you somewhere safe. It can be wherever you want, as long as there are no other packs around."

Maria sighed. ''I'm not concerned for myself... I'll be able to get through whatever, I promise. But I'm not leaving this place... I won't.''

"Why not," he asked. "Packs will keep coming to war."

She shrugged. ''I figure that we'll always protect each-other, no matter what.''

"We're too close to humans for war, love. This land will become a swamp of blood."

''Baby, they'll just follow us anyways... What's the point?''

"Humans will be attracted and want to kill off all werewolves. Even me. Then they'll begin hunting me down, wherever I go."

Maria sighed, taking his hands. ''Then they hunt us both...''

He looked her in the eyes and sighed, looking down at her hands holding his. He thought hard for several minutes and squeezed her hands gently. "Once I'm fully recovered, I'm taking you into hiding temporarily. You'll see why," he murmured.

Maria nodded, kissing his cheek. ''Okay baby, that sounds fine.''

He kissed her softly.

Maria sighed. ''Baby, why are you so scared for me?''

"Because you are human and fragile," he stroked her cheek. "And this is war. They know we are worn down and won't be afraid to attack when we're at our weakest."

Maria sighed. ''I fight by yoir side, 100%. You can't stop me...''

"Not while you're human," he kissed her. "But I promise that I'll teach you how to fight."

Maria kissed back. She wouldn't let him stop her from protecting what was his, what would one day be hers. She knew well enough what would happen to her.

He held her close, nuzzling his face into her hair. He just wanted to hold her for a while.

She smiled, sliding into his lap and sat her head on his shoulder.

He held her there, letting himself relax. She was safe, for now.

Maria settled against him, feeling his heart beat against her hand. He was calm for now, but for how long she would never know...

He kissed her forehead softly, holding her close.

Maria sighed, looking up at him. ''I love you baby...''

"I love you, too," he said softly, looking down at her.

She smiled and kissed him softly, her hands slinking up and over his shoulders.

He kissed her back tenderly and lovingly, his hand stroking her side out of habit, though he could hardly complain.
