Her father sighed, shrugging. "LuAnne, the girl is cooped up in the house for so long... It doesn't matter. The wolf hasn't bitten her face off yet so he's safe." "Peter! It's a wild animal!" "An animal that's kept our daughter happy so relax. He knows to use the bathroom outside, right Maria?" "Yes daddy..." "Well then it's settled. He's staying." "Thank you daddy!"

Alex wagged his tail and ran around in a circle, then around Maria and nuzzled her hand. He could have been reacting to Maria's happiness, for anyone knew.

Maria smiled and relaxed, rubbing Alex's head gently to calm him down. She smiled at her dad, kissed her mom on the cheek, then disappeared out of the kitchen to her room. When she got in, with Alex close behind, she shut the door and laid down on her bed.

Alex jumped up on her bed and nuzzled her gently, wondering if she was alright.

Maria smiled, kissing his head. "I love you," she whispered. She closed her eyes, yawning lightly.

He pushed his nose to her cheek softly, laying down next to her, letting her use him as a pillow if she wanted.

Maria smiled and curled up next to him, burying her head in his fur.

He nuzzled her lovingly and laid his head back down, yawning.

Maria smiled, falling asleep next to him. It had been a little bit since she'd slept this well.

Alex fell asleep, too. He hadn't slept in his wolf form in a few days. He didn't much mind it, though he preffered sleeping in his human form so he could hold Maria.

Maria smiled in her sleep, stroking his fur softly. She mumbled incoherent things, letting her eyes open slightly.

Alex yawned as he woke up a few hours later, stretching. He heard growling outside and sat up, his ears perked forward. What's going on, he asked the pack mentally.

More humans are coming. Damn things multiply like rats.

Maria sighed and opened her eyes slowly, smilin gat him. However, when he saw the look in his eyes, she sat up quickly. "Love? What's wrong?"

He looked at the bedroom door-it was closed. He shifted quickly. "More people are coming," he whispered to her. "The pack isn't happy - they don't like too many humans in their territory."

Maria grimaced, sighing. "Alright love, I'll be right back..." She slipped out of the bed and to her closet, pulling on a light jacket and went to the kitchen deck. She saw a group of kids coming through the woods. "What the hell..." She descended the stairs quickly, crossing the distance between her and the three others rather swiftly. "What're you all doin here?! I thought I tould you to stay off my property after you got the cops called..."

He shifted into his wolf form and followed her, staying by her side protectively.

Maria tilted her head, rolling her eyes before she spoke again. "You know what? I'll have yall for trespassing. Get off my property or get your asses halled back to juvi..." She knelt down next to Alex, whispering for him to go get the phone from the deck.

He trotted back inside and got the phone off it's charger and brought it back to her.

Maria smiled. By the time he returned, the four whom she had hoped for so long to get out of her mind had disappeared into the woods back to town. They couldn't risk another visit downtown.

Nick snorted after them and nuzzled Maria's hand, the phone in his mouth.

Maria smirked, sitting down in the grass. "You'll only have to stay like this for a little while longer. My parents will be leaving tomorrow evening..."

He wagged his tail and licked her face happily.

Maria smiled and kissed the top of his head, stroking his fur softly.

He nuzzled her and shook his fur, going to take the phone back inside.

She sighed, watching him trot inside. She wanted him to be able to wrap his arms around her...
