| Chapter 2
When we got home, my mom sat me down on the couch.
She looked at me worriedly, "Honey, tell me what's wrong."
I shook my head, smiling so I could hide it, "Nothing's wrong, mom."
She narrowed her eyes, giving me that 'I know something's up' look, "Jean, I know something's wrong. What is it?"
"Nothing, mom."
"Jean, I know you better than you think I do."
I sighed, "Fine..."
I took a deep breath, "You remember that boy that I used to play with...?"
She thought a moment, "You mean that one boy with the long hair...?"
I nodded slowly, "Yeah... Well, I've been having dreams about him lately..."
She shook her head, "Jean, honey, it's impossible..."
I nodded sadly, "I know... I ... I dunno what I was thinking... Forget it..."
She smiled sympathetically and hugged me, "It's alright, sweetie. Alan will be a great husband."
I smiled sadly and nodded, "Yeah... He will, won't he?"
She smiled, "And a wonderful father. A perfect man to marry."
I sight and smiled, "Yeah, you're right. I'm gonna go get ready."
She smiled, "Alright, sweetie."
I gave her a kiss on the cheek and ran back upstairs to my bedroom.
I turned on the computer and Googled his name.
I clicked on his name.
"Phoenix 'Nick' Gerald Williams 1985 - 2007"
It went on to tell about the crash he was in.
He left our hometown to get away from his parents.
He went to live with his friends out of state, and went to a party one night.
He was drunk, driving, and he drove into a semi truck.
I put my hand to my mouth as I remembered the call we got from his friend.
"Hey, Jean?"
"Yeah, what is it? What's wrong?"
"Well... Nick went with us to this party... And he left suddenly... He was drunk when he tried to drive himself home..."
I felt the tears building, "Is he okay...?"
There was a long pause, "I'm sorry, Jean..."
I felt those feelings come back to me as I tried to fight the tears.
Finally, I just shut down the computer and let myself cry silently on my bed, my face buried in the pillows.
Thankfully, Alan was out with his own friends, getting their tuxedos fitted, so I didn't have to worry about him seeing me like this.
After a while, my tears finally stopped flowing, so I picked up the phone and dialed the number.
"Hello?"
"Hi... Is Cody there..?"
There was a pause, it was the same voice, "J-Jean..?"
I blinked, "Yeah... Who is this?"
Cody got the phone from whoever it was, "Hello?"
"Hey, Cody. It's Jean."
"Oh, hey! What's up? You feeling okay?"
I nodded slowly, "Yeah... Uhm... Do you think I could come down there for a visit...?"
"Yeah, sure."
I heard the other guy say, "I don't think that's a good idea..."
I heard Cody's voice again, "So, when are you coming down?"
I shrugged, "I dunno. Maybe this weekend, if that's okay?"
"Yeah, sure. It's fine," he said happily, "I'll meet you at the airport."
I smiled, "Okay. Thanks, Cody."
"No problem. Bye," he hung up.
* * * * * * * * * * * *
I walked through the airport.
We'd finally landed after a couple hours flying.
I saw a sign with my name on it and walked towards the person curiously.
"Uhm, that's me," I told the tall, butler-like guy.
He nodded, took my bag, and led me to a limo.
Wow. A limo? I thought.
You wouldn't believe who I saw in the limo waiting for me.
I blinked, disbelieving, "...Nick...?"
And I fainted.
